Don't Cry Over Spilled Coffee
There's not much to say about this cartoon, except that the events depicted in the cartoon did happen.
I was also really surprised when I cared more about my coffee than I did about spilling it on myself (the coffee wasn't too hot at the time thankfully). I knew I had been powering through trying to get more stuff done than was humanly possible - but even I hadn't realized that I had reached that level of fatigue.
It's all good though and I'm in the process of changing a few things. Unfortunately, it's going to take awhile before I'm finished everything I have promised to deliver and I'm going to be busier than I would like. Until then I get back to a more comfortable pace, I'm going to have to start taking great care of myself instead of relying on caffeine to get me through!
If you're at all like me and have this ridiculous tendency to bite off more than you can chew - it's so important to pay attention to all the little signs that tell you it's time to scale back. They can include (but are not limited to) overreacting to small disappointments, increased anxiety and jitteriness, poor concentration, decreased resistance to bad habits and more.
When I suggest better self-care (and outline a plan) with my clients they notice that many of the original problems they came to see me about start to improve because they were symptoms of a deeper problem - exhaustion.
Keep looking for those little clues and make adjustments where necessary to get your life back in balance.
Then enjoy your coffee because you enjoy it not because you need it.
